Mating Season (June 16-21, 2026)

This week has historically been when the mating season really kicks off. Big male bears who are only present in Chinitna during prime mating season will be posturing, urinating, courting, and tree-scratching as they compete for the fertile females who regularly weave their way through camp to leave their flirty pheromones for the males to follow.

Mating and Fishing

If you're in a gambling mood...this is the week for you. This week has the potential to be both the grand finale of mating season (with the field in front of the lodge being filled with tantalizing female bears trying to gain the male's attention) but also the kick of to the first salmon run! Big tides are expected during this period, which could mean the beginning of the 2026 salmon run season. If that's the case, you'll have an opportunity for the superman shot of bears flying with both paws out hoping to land on their prey with a deep green forest backdrop, blue layered mountain backgrounds, or multiple layers of bears fishing over a distance of 2-3 miles
