Join us for a Shared Workshop at Brown Bear Bay!

Spring has sprung, mountains remain snow-capped, and the bears are fluffy as can be. Alaskan Coastal Brown Bears are among the biggest in their species because of two critical food sources when they emerge from winter: clams and sedge.

Come be the first to meet Chinitna Bay's returning resident bears and shy newcomers (hopefully spring cubs!) as they bulk up after a hard winter and help us build trust with them while they clam during low tide, navigate mating season drama, and munch on the nutritious sedge which makes the Bear Coast in Alaska a true "Bearadise". This is the perfect time to get a shot from head to toe of the brown bear, and to learn just how quickly bears and learn who is friend, foe, or neutral observer.

Behavior you can expect to see:

  • clamming

  • males posturing/fighting

  • mating

  • tree scratches

  • grazing

Itinerary:

Day 1 | Arrive in Homer.

Arrive in Homer, the launch point for your journey to Brown Bear Bay. Check-in to a comfortable hotel to rest before your adventure begins. Flight delays into Alaska due to weather are common, so we ensure your comfort and successful departure to the lodge with a buffer night in Homer. Please plan to arrive by 7PM for a 7:30PM welcome dinner in town! Check-in time for the next day's charter flight will be determined this evening.

Overnight Homer (hotel included).

Day 2 | Fly to Brown Bear Bay

Check in for your flight to Brown Bear Bay; after weigh-in, you'll embark on a 45-minute flight-seeing adventure in a specialized bush plane before landing on the remote private beach at Brown Bear Bay. The team will meet you on the beach and shuttle you to the lodge for check-in and orientation. Settle into your suite - or grab your gear and immediately get fitted into your waders to head out on your first official bear viewing outing! Meal-times and outings will be scheduled around "Bear time" according to group needs & preferences.
